SEMITI PAPER-D is a chloride-process rutile specifically engineered for high-loading decor and laminate paper applications — kitchen cabinet face paper, furniture overlay, flooring decor, and high-pressure laminate (HPL) production. It is the direct counterpart to Chemours Ti-Pure R-104 and the European Kronos 2073 paper grade.

Decor paper is one of the most TiO2-intensive applications globally — typical loading is 30–40% TiO2 on dry paper weight, compared with 1–3% for general filler paper. The TiO2 provides the opacity that allows decor paper to mask the substrate (particle board, MDF) and provide a uniform white or printed background.

The retention-aid compatible surface treatment of SEMITI PAPER-D is critical: at 30%+ loading, the TiO2 must be retained in the fiber mat during paper formation. The grade is qualified with standard cationic retention aids (polyacrylamide, poly-DADMAC) used in modern decor paper mills.

Why is decor paper TiO2 loading so high?+

Decor paper acts as a print substrate that hides the underlying particle board / MDF. To achieve full opacity at 60–80 GSM paper weight, 25–35% TiO2 is needed. Below that, the wood substrate shows through and degrades print quality.

Can SEMITI PAPER-D be used in general filler paper applications?+

It works but is expensive. For general filler (printing paper, newsprint), use SEMITI A100 anatase at 8–12% loading — much more economical.
