SEMITI 960

High-Heat Masterbatch Rutile

High thermal stability for engineering plastics — extrusion to 300°C without yellowing.

International equivalents: Chemours Ti-Pure R-960

SEMITI 960 is a chloride-process rutile TiO2 specifically engineered for high-temperature plastic masterbatch — particularly for engineering plastics (ABS, PC, PA6, PA66, PBT) and high-loading masterbatch (60–70% TiO2) in PE and PP carriers. It is the direct counterpart to Chemours Ti-Pure R-960.

The amine-compatible organic surface treatment serves two distinct functions. First, it provides excellent thermal stability up to 300°C — the upper end of engineering plastic compounding temperatures. Second, the amine compatibility means SEMITI 960 will not antagonize HALS (hindered amine light stabilizers) in outdoor-service compounds. This is a major formulation advantage over universal rutile grades whose surface treatments can deactivate HALS over time.

In high-loading masterbatch (60%+ TiO2), the rapid wet-out behavior of SEMITI 960's surface treatment dramatically reduces extruder torque and improves dispersion quality. Customers running 70% loading masterbatch in twin-screw extruders typically see 15–20% lower torque vs universal rutile grades.

Why customers pick SEMITI 960

  • 01Thermal stability to 300°C — engineering plastic safe (ABS, PC, PA, PBT)
  • 02HALS-compatible amine surface treatment — no antagonism in outdoor-service compounds
  • 03High-loading capable — runs cleanly at 60–70% MB loading
  • 04Volatiles < 0.30% at 105°C — no splay in injection molded parts

Common questions

Why use SEMITI 960 instead of SEMITI 996 in masterbatch?+
SEMITI 996 works fine up to 280°C and for commodity PE/PP MB. Use SEMITI 960 when (a) extrusion temperature exceeds 280°C (engineering plastics), (b) MB loading exceeds 60% (lower extruder torque matters), or (c) outdoor service with HALS stabilizer (avoid HALS antagonism).
Can SEMITI 960 be used in agricultural film with HALS?+
Yes — this is one of the prime use cases. The amine-compatible surface treatment does not deactivate HALS over time, enabling 5+ year agricultural film service life with proper HALS loading (0.3–0.5%).
How does SEMITI 960 compare in PVC compounding?+
Works fine in PVC up to 250°C processing temperature, though SEMITI 996 is more common in PVC. For high-end PVC profile (window frame, > 10 year service), SEMITI 2190 is the specialty choice.
