SEMITI 706W
Optimized for waterborne emulsion paints — minimum TiO2 demand, excellent anti-settling.
SEMITI 706W is a chloride-process rutile with a hydrophilic-tuned surface treatment, specifically engineered for waterborne architectural emulsion paints. It is the direct counterpart to Chemours Ti-Pure R-746, designed for paint formulators who want to maximize hiding power per kg of TiO2 while minimizing the impact on emulsion viscosity, settling, and color tinting.
In waterborne acrylic and styrene-acrylic emulsion paints, the most expensive line item by far is TiO2. A 10% reduction in TiO2 loading — achievable by switching from a universal grade like SEMITI 902 to a hydrophilic-tuned grade like SEMITI 706W — typically saves $200–400 per ton of finished paint at current TiO2 prices.
The grade achieves this by maximizing the optical spacing efficiency of TiO2 particles in the dried film. The hydrophilic surface coating wets immediately into the waterborne grind, prevents pigment-pigment flocculation, and keeps particles individually dispersed in the dry film where they contribute maximum hiding power per particle.
Why customers pick SEMITI 706W
- 01Maximum hiding per kg — typically 8–12% lower TiO2 demand vs universal rutile at same opacity target
- 02Hydrophilic surface — wets immediately into waterborne grind, no induction period
- 03Anti-settling tuned — passes 12-month static storage without hard packing
- 04Minimum whiteness impact (Δ-WI ≤ 1.5 vs reference) over 6-month storage at 35°C

vs international reference grades
Comparisons against the international grades most commonly cross-referenced by formulators.
Direct alternative. Same hydrophilic-tuned approach to maximize hiding-per-kg in waterborne. In paint manufacturer A/B trials, SEMITI 706W matches R-746 within 3% on contrast ratio at equal loading.
Tronox RFC-5 is similarly positioned for waterborne architectural. SEMITI 706W has slightly higher tinting strength; RFC-5 has marginal edge in scrub resistance.
SEMITI 706W beats 902 by 8–12% on hiding-per-kg in waterborne emulsion. Use 706W when paint volume justifies the slight premium; use 902 for general-purpose.
