SEMITI 706

Premium Coatings Rutile

Premium chloride rutile for high-end coatings — exceptional gloss retention and weather durability.

International equivalents: Chemours Ti-Pure R-706

SEMITI 706 is a premium chloride-process rutile engineered for high-performance coatings where long-term gloss retention, color stability, and outdoor durability matter more than first cost. It is the direct technical counterpart to Chemours Ti-Pure R-706, the global reference grade for industrial and automotive top-coats.

The combined alumina + zirconia + organic surface treatment provides three benefits over universal rutile grades. First, the zirconia layer dramatically reduces photocatalytic activity at the pigment surface — extending exterior service life by 2–3x in QUV exposure testing. Second, the heavy inorganic coating provides excellent compatibility with the broad range of binders used in industrial coatings (epoxy, polyurethane, acrylic-polyol, fluoropolymer). Third, the organic surface treatment is tuned for both waterborne and solventborne dispersion.

SEMITI 706 is the recommended grade for any coating system that needs to deliver 5+ years of outdoor service without visible chalking — coil coatings on architectural cladding, anti-corrosive industrial top-coats, automotive refinish, and high-end facade systems.

Why customers pick SEMITI 706

  • 01Zirconia + alumina surface treatment — gloss retention ≥ 80% at 2000 hr QUV-A exposure
  • 02Compatible with broad binder range — epoxy, PU, acrylic-polyol, fluoropolymer all qualified
  • 03Tight color specification (Δb* < 0.5 batch-to-batch) — critical for color-matched OEM systems
  • 04Low photocatalytic activity — reduces binder degradation in clearcoat/topcoat stacks

vs international reference grades

Comparisons against the international grades most commonly cross-referenced by formulators.

Chemours Ti-Pure
R-706

Direct functional equivalent. SEMITI 706 matches R-706 within 3% on QUV gloss retention and within 1 unit Δb* in standard color match panels. Cost advantage 35–40% landed.

Tronox
CR-826

Both are durable-grade rutiles. Tronox CR-826 has slightly higher zirconia content; SEMITI 706 has comparable performance in 1000+ hr QUV testing with a meaningful cost advantage.

Kronos
2360

Kronos 2360 is positioned similarly for industrial/exterior. SEMITI 706 has better hiding power per kg, Kronos slight edge on dispersion ease in low-shear systems.

Packaging & shipping

Common questions

Can I drop SEMITI 706 into a formulation qualified on Ti-Pure R-706?+
In 80% of cases, yes — same loading, same dispersion. For automotive OEM where color tolerance is < 0.5 ΔE, we recommend a 100 kg trial batch and color-match verification before bulk substitution.
Why is SEMITI 706 more expensive than SEMITI 996?+
The zirconia surface treatment costs roughly 2–3x more to apply than alumina-only. For interior coatings where outdoor durability isn't required, SEMITI 996 is the better economic choice. SEMITI 706 earns its premium when outdoor service > 5 years is required.
Is SEMITI 706 suitable for waterborne automotive refinish?+
Yes. The combined surface treatment performs well in both waterborne (acrylic emulsion + cross-linker) and solventborne automotive systems. We've validated against Ti-Pure R-706 in waterborne refinish primer and topcoat formulations.
